Are the manufacturers just afraid of DRM cracking, or what?I could see something like Columbia House for this kind of content - send three new releases every month for a small fee, pay to view the ones you want - and then either pass them on or save them for future renting. And, the was later dropped from the name. Circuit Citys Divx was later forced to shut down in 1998 due to lack of response.

There's disposable DVD's supposedly being released soon, but if you want to watch it again 5 months later - you have to buy it again. Is there a market for a Divx type media?DVD rental places seem to be doing pretty good business - I think there is. The was there to mock Circuit Citys pay-per-view DVD idea, called Digital Video Express (or Divx). Sorry if this is the wrong forum.I never bought one - but the model of being able to rent movies like that is one I kind of like. You don't need the bandwidth, you just pay per viewing time slot - you can pass the media on to others to pay for viewing privilege etc.For movies you want to own, it wasn't a good model - but if you don't want to spend $30 on the latest blockbuster, but wouldn't mind spending a few bucks to get the media and watch it once - with the ability to watch it again at a later date w/o having to leave your house, it seems like a good solution.Sure - there's netflix, but you have to pay a monthly service fee for that.
